Miss Chinatown, Dale Wong, will highlight the second annual Chinese Lunar New Year Festival from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Golden Cove Center in Rancho Palos Verdes. The center is at Hawthorne Boulevard and Palos Verdes Drive West.
Celebrants will welcome the Year of the Horse, with the traditional Lion Dance, Chinese fortunetelling, martial arts and a sword dance. The Lion Dance is performed as a harbinger of good luck for the new year.
The Year of the Horse is described by cultural consultant Angi Ma Wong as “a year of adventure, action, moving ahead, recklessness and whimsy.”
Jointly sponsored by Rancho Palos Verdes and the Golden Cove Center Assn., the free event will also include food booths, artists and their work, dancing and music.
