P. M. BRIEFING : Walkout Looms at Binion’s Club

LAS VEGAS — A walkout looms at Binion’s Horseshoe Club after culinary and bartenders’ union members voted 590 to 70 to strike the downtown casino.
After the Thursday vote, Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Jim Arnold called meetings with union leaders today and said, “After that, anything is possible.”
The Las Vegas Sun quoted sources as saying the walkout is set to begin Saturday.
The unions are seeking several changes in the previous five-year contract with the resort, including a $1.25-per-hour raise over five years, elimination of the 80% cap on wages for new hires and a 95-cent-an-hour management contribution to the union’s health and welfare fund.
