A convicted slumlord was hit with new charges Thursday in connection with alleged dangerous and substandard conditions at a Skid Row hotel he owns.
Luis Guerrero, 48, of Monterey Park and his wife, Laura Guerrero, 49, were charged by the city attorney’s office with 23 counts of having slum conditions at the three-story, 76-room Ohio Hotel at 1104 1/2 E. 7th St.
Code violations include broken windows, a missing stairway handrail and holes in walls, prosecutors said. In addition, City Atty. James K. Hahn said, “A critical pressure relief valve is missing from a water heater . . . that could explode if it malfunctions.”
It was the second slumlord case filed against Guerrero in the last eight months.
