Two Leading Ladies of the Screen Leave Behind Sweet Memories
- Share via
Having been entertained over the years by Barbara Stanwyck and Ava Gardner, I feel as though I have lost two family members. Last night I felt compelled to watch a videotape of “East Side, West Side” (1949), the only movie in which these two ladies appeared together.
Barbara Stanwyck was truly one of a kind. She worked with all the great movie directors, and they all had nothing but praise for her talent, cooperativeness and willingness to help the less experienced.
And then there’s Ava Gardner--what vivid images come to mind! All you have to do is watch the closing scene of “Show Boat” to see what potential there was if she had been used properly.
