A Harbor City teen-ager has been sentenced to 27 years to life in prison for the fatal drive-by shooting of a 16-year-old boy who was killed as he walked home from his Wilmington church two years ago.
Hector Acuna Garcia, 18, received the maximum sentence in Long Beach Superior Court for the murder of Rafael Pereda, who was killed moments after he left a youth meeting at Holy Family Catholic Church in March, 1988.
Garcia, who was 17 at the time of the murder, also has been sentenced to 37 years to life in prison for a double murder in a drive-by shooting in August, 1988. The two sentences will run consecutively, bringing Garcia’s prison sentence to a total of 64 years to life.
