WORLD IN BRIEF : LEBANON : Christian Militia Leader Urges Truce

Christian leader Samir Geagea, whose Lebanese Forces militiamen are locked in battle with rival Christian forces in East Beirut, urged a halt to a week of bitter warfare. Geagea’s plea coincided with the announcement of a new cease-fire arranged by senior Maronite Christian clerics and officials. At least 270 people have been killed and more than 1,000 wounded in the fighting.
