Tenneco Inc.: The Houston-based company said 1989 net income was $584 million, down from $822 million in 1988. The company noted that 1988 income reflected $823 million from discontinued operations, primarily profit on the sale of Tenneco Oil Co. Without the one-time gain, the company posted a $1-million loss from continuing operations in 1988. Revenue was $14.1 billion for 1989, compared to $13.2 billion for 1988. The significant improvement in 1989 results was led by the strong performance in the farm and construction equipment business and improvements in natural gas pipeline operations, the company said.
