An unidentified man was shot in the head Monday, reportedly after he tried to run down a policeman with a stolen car, San Diego Police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
The man was seen in the car at 4:50 p.m. by the vehicle’s owner, who was accompanying police as they drove in search of it.
One officer’s foot was run over as the suspect tried to flee at Kemper Street and Midway Drive, Robinson said. The officer fired, hitting the man in the head. He was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he underwent surgery, beginning about 6:30 p.m., according to a nursing supervisor. The alleged assailant, whose name was not released Monday night, was in critical condition.
Police had not released the names of the officers involved in the incident.
