$2.2-Billion Plane Engine Order: Singapore Airlines has decided to fit the 30 Boeing 747-400 and 20 McDonnell Douglas MD-11 aircraft it is buying with American-made Pratt & Whitney engines worth about $2.2 billion, the company said. In a news release, the airline said it spent four months evaluating three engines, including the General Electric CF6-80c2BIF and the Rolls Royce RB211-524H, before deciding on the Pratt & Whitney PW 4056 for the Boeing 747-400. Pratt & Whitney engines are made by United Technologies Corp. of Hartford, Conn.
