WORLD : Duvalier and Wife Separate

MOUGINS, France — Former Haitian dictator Jean-Claude (Baby Doc) Duvalier, living in exile in France, has separated from his wife, friends said today.
They said Duvalier’s wife, Michele Bennett, had moved out of their luxury villa on the French Riviera and was living with their two children in an apartment in the nearby resort of Cannes.
Duvalier, 38, settled with his family in Mougins shortly after their arrival in France as exiles after his overthrow four years ago.
His wife, renowned for her taste for designer clothes and expensive jewelry, moved out six weeks ago, the friends added. The reason for the separation was not known.
