A burglary suspect who monitored police whereabouts by listening to law enforcement frequencies on headphones was arrested after a break-in at a Simi Valley house, police said Friday.
Police arrested William Hines, 26, of Simi Valley, who was carrying a scanner tuned to their frequency, shortly after the burglary was reported at 10:40 a.m.
Police were alerted by a neighbor who saw a man kicking the front door of a house in the 4400 block of Lubbock Drive, Sgt. Jeff Malgren said.
When police arrived, the burglar had gone. A neighbor gave them a good description of the suspect. Officer Alan McCord had noticed a motorcycle parked nearby when he responded to the call.
Police arrest Hines, who was driving a motorcycle, a short time later. He is on probation for burglary.
