‘Bird’ Award Winners: American tenor saxophonist Stan Getz, 63, and Belgian guitarist Philip Catherine, 48, won the “Bird” jazz prize Wednesday, awarded annually to an American and a non-American at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague, Netherlands. They will be presented in July. Philadelphia-born Getz gained a wide reputation in the 1960s for his ballads and lively bossa novas. The award is named after legend Charlie (Bird) Parker.
