NATION IN BRIEF : NATIONWIDE : Pan Am Is Sued for Security Refunds

Pan American World Airways was sued for damages and reimbursement of $18 million in security surcharges by a customer group that includes the parents of one of the 270 people killed in the bombing of Flight 103 in 1988. The group claims the airline collected a $5-per-ticket surcharge to pay for security on international flights but never spent the money to protect passengers. Attorney Richard A. Grossman said the suit is a class action on behalf of more than a million purchasers of Pan Am tickets in the years 1986-1989.
