Memorial Health Services, the Long Beach-based parent corporation of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, has named Richard T. Williams, 59, a former general manager of Dow Chemical Co., as its new president. Williams has an extensive background in health service industries.
“Dick Williams is a proven leader and successful businessman,” Delmar Johnston, chairman of the company’s board of directors, said in announcing the new president’s hire. “He is the most outstanding person available to guide our organization through this interim period while we consider the numerous options available for the restructuring of Memorial Health Services.”
As president, Williams will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the company’s entire health services system, which, besides Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, includes Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills and Memorial Health Technologies in Huntington Beach.
The company’s former president, Stephen Ummel, resigned suddenly late last year citing “personal and career reasons.”
