PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : La Quinta Wins No. 300 for Demarest

Coach Dave Demarest gained the 300th victory of his career when La Quinta High School defeated Garden Grove, 6-1, in a Garden Grove League game Wednesday at La Quinta.
Demarest has coached 17 years at La Quinta and has a record of 300-120. This season, La Quinta is 14-6 and 6-1 in league.
Matt Logan had two hits, including a bases-empty home run in the fourth inning, scored twice and had two RBIs to lead La Quinta.
In other Garden Grove League games:
Los Amigos 4, Santiago 2--John Morgan (5-5) pitched a three-hitter and doubled in Los Amigos’ third run in the seventh inning. Los Amigos (7-12, 5-2) scored four in the inning and had seven doubles in the game. Marco Perez hit a two-run home run in the fifth for Santiago (5-2 in league).
Rancho Alamitos 3, Bolsa Grande 2--Romeo Ponteres and Servin Nosek combined for a one-hitter for host Rancho Alamitos (4-12, 2-5). Ponteres (1-3) pitched 5 2/3 innings and Nosek finished with hitless relief for the save. Jim Gamez scored the winning run in the third inning on Chris Osterade’s single.
Kennedy 5, Pacifica 3--Visiting Pacifica led, 3-0, before Kennedy’s four-run rally in the fourth, capped by Craig Roah’s two-run double. Kennedy is 9-11, 4-3.
In the Empire League:
Esperanza 2, Cypress 1 (9 innings)--Jon Pitts scored from second on a throwing error during a double-play attempt in the bottom of the ninth for Esperanza (14-4, 8-0). Cypress scored a run in the seventh inning to tie the score.
El Dorado 8, Loara 3--Matt Svoboda (1-1) pitched a one-hitter, striking out 10 and walking eight, to lead El Dorado.
Katella 5, Los Alamitos 2--John Allen pitched a six-hitter to lead visiting Katella (14-4, 5-3). Mike Farley hit a bases-empty home run for Katella.
In the Freeway League:
Sunny Hills 6, Fullerton 3--Rick Orr (5-2) pitched a seven-hitter and struck out six to lead host Sunny Hills.
Troy 7, Buena Park 3--Brent Coon had two hits, two stolen bases and three RBIs; Matt Carter had two hits and scored three runs and Guy Pinelli (3-2) pitched a complete game and had eight strikeouts to lead visiting Troy (7-8, 4-3).
La Habra 5, Sonora 3 (9 innings)--Mike Martin and Jason Johnson singled in the ninth inning and both scored on a throwing error following a sacrifice bunt for visiting La Habra. Mark Moreno hit a bases-empty home run in the sixth and pitched nine innings, allowing four hits and striking out 12 for La Habra (4-11, 3-5). Scott Oxarart struck out eight for Sonora.
In the South Coast League:
Irvine 6, San Clemente 4--Mark Huffman had two hits and a stolen base and Scott Brendino had two RBIs for host Irvine (10-9, 5-3).
Capistrano Valley 4, Mission Viejo 0--Travis Burgus (5-2) pitched a two-hitter, walking eight and striking out 13, and Danny Zamora had two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases for visiting Capistrano Valley (10-7-1, 3-4-1).
El Toro 5, Dana Hills 4--Reggie Watkins had two hits and scored a run, and Darren Sharp had a two-run double to drive in two of El Toro’s three runs in the third.
In the Sea View League:
Corona del Mar 7, Saddleback 3--Rees Thorkelson hit a three-run double in the first, went two for four with four RBIs and pitched a complete game for visiting Corona del Mar (7-11, 2-6).
Estancia 15, University 6--Ruben Mora went four for four and Paul McDaniels was two for three with four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the seventh inning.
