ROUND 2: Burnout among high school athletes (C6) isn’t always terminal. . . . At Orange Coast College, Coach Don Watson estimates that 40% of the members of his women’s swim team had quit the sport at one point in their lives. . . . “I think burnout is solvable,” Watson said. “The key is to integrate (the sport) back into a person’s life. . . . We would not have won a single state championship if we hadn’t had these women come back after quitting.” His team (above) has won five of the last six community college state titles.
