Lauby Strikes Out 14 in El Toro Victory

Paige Lauby struck out 14 and gave up one hit Thursday as top-seeded El Toro High School beat University, 3-0, in a 3-A first-round playoff softball game at El Toro.
Lauby (12-2) allowed only three University baserunners. The senior right-hander walked two and gave up an infield single to Liz Whiteley in the sixth inning.
El Toro (22-8) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a single and a three-base error. El Toro added two more runs in the fifth inning when Jennifer Jourden’s two-out single scored Karie Yoshioka and Smith.
Jourden and Smith each had two hits to pace El Toro’s six-hit attack.
University ends its season at 15-11.
