It’s never a good idea to try to gather information by pretending to be one of your subjects. It’s a phony basic premise; it can’t help but be patronizing.
I have a professional and personal interest in people who live on the edge of society, so I help them when I can. But I would never pose as a client, then brag about my own superior circumstances.
