San Diego police shot and killed a 29-year-old man who had threatened suicide and then menaced the officers with a knife, police reported Sunday.
Bruce Todd Riddle, who had lived with his mother and stepfather for the past five months, was shot three times in the chest and pronounced dead at UC San Diego Medical Center at 11:05 p.m. Saturday
Police responded to the Coronado Palms Trailer Park in the 2200 block of Coronado Avenue after a caller reported that Riddle appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was threatening to kill himself. Officers said they talked with Riddle, who reportedly had a knife tied to his wrist and was acting irrationally.
After almost an hour, Riddle reportedly charged Officers Loretta Glick and Robert Walter with the knife. The officers reportedly drew their guns and fired.
Glick, 34, is a 9-year veteran with the San Diego Police Department; Walter, 34, is a 5-year veteran. Neither officer was hurt during the incident.
