2nd Buckey Trial Ends in Deadlock

The most disgusting part of the McMartin case is its unbelievable waste and inefficiency, as millions of dollars were flushed down the toilet on a case which was legally unwinnable.
Instead of spending money on tens and perhaps hundreds of more damaging and potentially winnable child abuse cases (where there was hard, corroborated evidence and severe and repeated instances of bodily injury and molestation), $15 million was spend on a case which couldn’t be won, which may have happened, but which couldn’t be proven in court.
The legal system, like all other parts of our government, should be held fiscally accountable and should make every effort to operate efficiently and to contain costs. We can no longer afford the luxury of a financially open-ended legal system, and even though we don’t like to admit it, even justice has a dollar limit.
