MARTINEZ — Grateful Dead keyboardist Brent Mydland, who was found dead in his home last month, died from acute cocaine and narcotic intoxication, officials said today.
“The autopsy examination revealed a recent puncture mark on the left arm consistent with a recent intravenous injection prior to death,” said Capt. Al Moore of the Contra Costa Coroner’s office. “Toxicology tests reveal lethal levels of morphine and cocaine in the blood.”
No drugs or narcotic paraphernalia were found and there was no indication of foul play, Moore said. There was no evidence to indicate suicide.
Mydland, 37, was found dead in the bedroom of his secluded Lafayette home on July 26. Friends who had not heard from him since the previous day went to his home to check on him and discovered the body.
