Western Union Workers Reject Proposal: The Western Union Corp. employees’ union rejected a 90-day contract extension as the company replaced at least half of its 2,500 union workers with temporary employees. Western Union is in negotiations with the Communication Workers of America. The latest contract expired Aug. 6. The company wants to increase use of outside contractors and part-time employees and to cut union health benefits. It has offered a 2.5% wage hike over a two-year contract.
