Eastern, TWA Announce Fare Cuts: Two major airlines announced that they would cut some domestic air fares for a limited time, offering the promotion at a time when major airlines have raised most ticket prices to account for sharply higher fuel prices. Eastern Airlines announced new discount one-way fares that will range from $69 to $139 and cover all of Eastern’s 62 U.S. destinations from Sept. 5 through Dec. 16. The tickets must be purchased by Aug. 29. Separately, Trans World Airlines announced that it would cut non-refundable domestic fares in most markets by 20% or more.
