‘Miss Saigon’ Casting Furor
As an observer of the controversy over the “Miss Saigon” play, and as a consumer of movies, plays, etc., it’s clear to me that the reversal of Actors’ Equity’s position, allowing a white to play an Asian with taped-up eyes, is in the saddest tradition of American racism. Is it a surprise why many minorities mistrust whites? It’s disappointing, it’s tragic.
