BIG GUNS: The 72nd Assembly race continues to draw attention from both parties. State Democratic Chair Edmund G. Brown Jr. (above) says that Tom Umberg has already received $47,000 from the state party. The GOP has contributed as much to incumbent Curt Pringle and is trying to arrange a fund-raiser for Pringle with Vice President Dan Quayle. “It is very rare that a vice president would do this for an assemblyman,” a GOP spokesman says.
