Texas Can’t Stop Bieniemy, 29-22 : Colorado: He runs for three touchdowns as the Buffaloes rally from an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

AUSTIN, Tex. — Eric Bieniemy scored three touchdowns, two on short-yardage runs in the fourth quarter, to help No. 20 Colorado overcome an eight-point deficit and beat No. 22 Texas, 29-22, Saturday night.

Bieniemy’s winning score, a two-yard run with 5:47 left, was set up by Dave McCloughan’s 31-yard punt return to the Texas 35.

Bieniemy also scored from four yards out with 10:10 left to cap a 60-yard drive by Colorado (2-1-1) after Texas (1-1) went ahead, 22-14, with 14:12 left on Michael Pollak’s third field goal.

Colorado led at halftime, 14-13, on a 38-yard scoring pass play from Darian Hagan to George Hemingway and Bieniemy’s two-yard run with 6:52 left in the half.

Bieniemy accounted for 70 yards in a 75-yard drive that put Colorado ahead, 14-10. He finished with 99 yards rushing in 26 carries and caught one pass for 41 yards, setting up his first touchdown.

Texas gained a 22-14 lead by controlling the ball for all but 2:43 of the third quarter.

Phil Brown’s two-yard run with 4:44 left in the quarter made it 19-14. The Longhorns missed a two-point conversion try.

An onside kick recovered by Texas at the Colorado 41 set up Pollak’s 22-yard field goal and a 22-14 lead with 14:12 left.

Pollak also had a field goal of 47 yards in the first quarter and a 25-yarder late in the second period.

With the score 27-22, Texas moved to the Colorado 40, but Peter Gardere was sacked for a six-yard loss on fourth and 11.

On Texas’ final possession, Gardere was sacked for a safety by linebacker Alfred Williams.

Gardere completed 15 of 28 passes for 153 yards. His six-yard scoring pass to Kerry Cash gave Texas an early 7-0 lead.

Hagan had only 31 yards in 14 carries, but completed seven of 11 passes for 160 yards.
