Malone, Stockton Get New Contracts Without Asking

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Jazz officials, mindful of soaring NBA salaries, have “redone” the multimillion-dollar contracts of power forward Karl Malone and guard John Stockton, team owner Larry Miller said Tuesday.
Neither Malone nor Stockton had sought to renegotiate their contracts, Miller said at a news conference.
“Our general assumption was, we’re talking about two premier players in the league and we want to treat them that way,” he said.
Miller would not divulge the terms of the contracts, but Malone’s reportedly is $3 million for each of the eight years remaining on his 10-year agreement. Estimates were not available on Stockton’s new contract.
