Consumer Confidence Remains Low: The level of consumer confidence in the United States was unchanged in September--which means that public sentiment about the economy remains at its lowest level since the 1982 recession, the Conference Board said. The business research organization’s consumer confidence index plunged 17 points to 84.7 in August following the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
