STANFIELD, Ore. — Residents have decided to put a halt to traffic streaming through this community in eastern Oregon which is on a major freeway exit--they have installed the first traffic light in the town’s 107-year history.
“This is one of the best things that ever happened to the town,” Mayor Frank Alvarez said of the three-lens traffic signal during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday attended by about 70 of the town’s 1,615 residents.
