An Inglewood man who accidentally shot his 4-year-old son to death while showing him how a revolver works has been released from jail after prosecutors decided not to press criminal charges.
Jesus Edmundo Zubia, 24, was arrested Friday night on suspicion of murder after he shot Michael Jason Zubia in the face. Police said the father had pointed the gun, which he believed was not loaded, at Michael and pulled the trigger while demonstrating to Michael and his 7-year-old brother how a gun works.
The district attorney’s office had considered filing a voluntary manslaughter charge against Zubia but rejected it because oflack of evidence.
“It was a tragic accident,” said Deputy Dist. Atty. Sandra Buttitta. “We don’t think there was any criminal intent.”
