THE SIDELINES : 2 Ex-Sooner Athletes Convicted of Supplying Drugs to Thompson

OKLAHOMA CITY — A federal jury convicted two former University of Oklahoma athletes today of supplying cocaine to former Sooner quarterback Charles Thompson in January, 1989.
John Green, who was Thompson’s teammate, and Lamont Harris, a former track star, were accused of obtaining cocaine for the quarterback, who sold it to an undercover FBI agent. Thompson is serving a two-year prison sentence in connection with the incident.
Green and Harris were each found guilty of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and cocaine distribution. Harris also was found guilty of using a telephone to facilitate a drug transaction. Both face up to 40 years in prison, but prosecutors said the sentences would probably be similar to Thompson’s.
The jury announced its verdict after about three hours of deliberations Tuesday and today.
U.S. District Judge Ralph Thompson denied bond for both pending formal sentencing.
Thompson testified in the case Monday and Tuesday. He said that he and former quarterback Jamelle Holieway used cocaine several times together. (Story, C2.) Holieway denied the allegations.
