Plans for Hansen Dam Renovation Win Support
- Share via
Plans by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to undertake a sweeping revitalization of the Hansen Dam Recreation Area has won the enthusiastic support of eastern San Fernando Valley residents.
Along with a 10-acre lake that would be used exclusively for swimming, the plan calls for renovation of the sprawling 1,400-acre Lake View Terrace site with hiking and horseback riding trails, wildlife preserve, playing fields and the eventual development of two 15- and 70-acre lakes connected by a stream.
About $875,000 in state and federal money has been set aside to build the swimming lake, scheduled for completion in early 1993. Also, in Los Angeles County, Proposition B, an $816-million park bond measure, would allocate $15 million for Hansen Dam renovation.
The Los Angeles Board of Recreation and Park Commissioners and the Army Corps are expected to approve the final master plan within three months.
