CINCINNATI — The Padres, in continuing their front-office sweep, fired Mike Swanson, media relations director, and informed Bill Beck, assistant general manager, to clean out his office by Oct. 29.
The rash of firings, which began with the Sept. 21 ousting of Jack McKeon, then general manager/vice president of baseball operations, leaves President Dick Freeman and Randy Smith, scouting director, as the only Padre employees remaining with the club in baseball operations for the 1991 season.
