PREP ROUNDUP : No. 9 Costa Mesa Tops Laguna Hills in Water Polo

Costa Mesa High School, the ninth-ranked water polo team in the county, defeated Laguna Hills, 11-9, Wednesday at Laguna Hills and took sole possession of first place in the Pacific Coast League.
Corey Delahunt had four goals and Julian Popov had three to lead Costa Mesa (11-7, 3-0 in league). Laguna Hills is 2-1 in the league.
In Sea View League water polo:
Newport Harbor 7, Tustin 6--Rob Worthing scored his fourth goal with 37 seconds remaining to give No. 2 Newport Harbor (10-4, 2-1) the victory over unranked Tustin (12-6, 1-2). Mike Gonzalez had 17 saves for the host Tillers.
In Empire League water polo:
El Dorado 8, Esperanza 5--Matt Szoboda had three goals and Joey Benson had 10 saves for No. 3 El Dorado (3-0 in league).
In Sunset League water polo:
Edison 11, Marina 4--Todd McClung had three goals and drew two penalty shots for Edison (13-7, 4-0) at Golden West College.
In South Coast League girls’ cross-country:
Irvine 22, Mission Viejo 33--Jennifer Gillis (18:46) and Kelly Roda (18:47) finished together to lead No. 1 Irvine (5-0), to the victory on the three-mile course at Laguna Niguel Regional Park.
