WORLD IN BRIEF : CHINA : U.S. Criticized for Trade Restrictions

China sharply criticized the House of Representatives for seeking to end China’s most-favored-nation trading status and for linking trade with Beijing’s human rights record. In Washington, the move to raise tariffs on Chinese goods appeared to have died when the Senate did not act before a midnight deadline for passing the resolution. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the resolutions “will exert a destructive impact on economic and trade relations between the two countries.”
