For the first six games of the season, Tony Williams was a good player on a losing team; last week he was a great player on a winner.
Williams rushed for 176 yards and scored four touchdowns, including the game-winner with 30 seconds remaining, to help Ventura break a 10-game losing streak with a 46-45 victory over Santa Barbara.
Williams scored on runs of 10, eight, one and one yards. All four touchdown runs came on a play called 44 Blast, a play that Williams ran 10 times for 74 yards in the game.
“He was the go-to guy,” Ventura Coach Dick James said. “He ran harder and with more enthusiasm than he has all year.”
