Ronan Rafferty birdied four of the first five holes against Calcavecchia en route to a 71-73 victory. Levi played only nine holes against Mark James before dropping out with a bad back.
Europe picked up its other points when David Feherty beat Payne Stewart, 71-72, and Ian Woosnam defeated Tim Simpson, 68-71.
Fred Couples posted a U.S. victory when he shot a 65, beating Nick Faldo’s 69.
