Glendora : Senior Housing Being Built

Fourteen years after Dr. Paul and Marilyn Geleris donated 13 acres of land to Glendora, construction has begun on the Geleris Senior Housing complex.

The 157-unit complex is being built on the donated site by the Andover/Chandler Co., which is paying construction costs of an estimated $6.5 million, said Keene Wilson, assistant to Glendora’s city manager. The project is expected to be completed in late 1992, and the city plans to lease the complex to Andover/Chandler for 55 years.

The complex, at 1000 S. Glendora Ave., will be available to people 55 and over, Wilson said. Company officials estimate that monthly rent will be about $365 for a one-bedroom unit and $420 for a two-bedroom apartment.

Forty-five of the units will be subsidized by Andover/Chandler to accommodate senior citizens with yearly incomes of less than $21,000.
