VENTURA : Council to Consider Taylor Ranch Plan
- Share via
The Ventura City Council on Monday will consider a proposal by Mayor Richard Francis urging the selection committee for a California State University campus in Ventura County to complete an environmental study on the Taylor Ranch site before scratching it as a potential site.
Taylor Ranch, west of Ventura, had been the preferred site for the proposed campus until June, when university officials bowed to opposition from environmental groups and reopened the site selection process.
Last week, the university’s Board of Trustees recommended that the Taylor Ranch be scratched from a list of potential university sites.
Francis, a staunch Taylor Ranch backer, said he hopes a vote of confidence by the city for the site may help change the trustees’ minds.
However, the City Council is almost evenly divided on the issue. “I hope I can be persuasive,” Francis said.
