3 D.C. Taxicab Firms Settle Race Bias Suit

WASHINGTON — Three taxicab companies in the nation’s capital have agreed to pay more than $300,000 to settle a racial discrimination lawsuit.
In a consent decree signed by a judge on Friday, American Cab, National Cab and Empire Cab agreed to improve service, but they did not admit to the alleged violations.
Six people and one company filed suit against the companies alleging that cabs in the District of Columbia failed to pick up black patrons and refused them service to predominantly black neighborhoods.
