“We Can’t Run Government on Auto-Pilot” (Commentary, Oct. 24) says entrenched legislator Mike Roos, who rues the day Props. 131 and 140 proved popular enough to qualify for the ballot. I wouldn’t be surprised if his ghostwriter was Willie Brown.
“Our political system works,” remarks Roos. And it does--for legislators well-protected from the winds of democracy by gerrymandering and lobbyists’ loot.
“If legislators fail on the job . . . get rid of them.” Sounds like a “double-dog dare” given the twin fortresses of fecund funds and gross gerrymandering. “Work. Mobilize. Organize. Demonstrate.” Really, Mike? Sounds more like an insider’s taunt than a practical political prescription.
Why not “go directly to go”--and give these career politicians that message by voting for Props. 131 and 140?
