PHOENIX — Dick Trickle won the Goodwrench 300 Saturday at Phoenix International Raceway for the second year in a row, but Doug George’s 13th-place finish was enough to give the Atwater, Calif., driver the NASCAR Southwest Tour championship.
Twelve caution flags and numerous crashes lowered Trickle’s winning speed to 81.9 m.p.h. The only serious injury occured when Dave Scheidecker of Claremont, Calif., had to scramble from his burning car. He was taken to Maricopa County Hospital, where his condition was listed as good.
