A resident of a Pico Rivera retirement home was found stabbed and shot to death in a second-floor lounge and another resident of the facility was arrested on suspicion of murder early today, authorities said.
“Deputies responding to a 911 emergency call at the Rosemead Retirement home at 6525 Rosemead Blvd. about 12:50 a.m. saw Manuel Garcia, 59, with a handgun in his hand standing over the body of a 59-year-old senior citizen who was seated in a chair,” Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Mead said.
The victim, whose name was withheld, was dead at the scene from multiple gunshot and stab wounds, he said.
“Witnesses said that Garcia and the victim had an argument shortly before the shooting and that Garcia went to his room and returned with a handgun and a knife,” Mead said. “Several shots were heard and witnesses walked into the second floor lounge and saw Garcia standing over the body,” he said.
