NATION : Teen Girls’ Sex Activity Rises

WASHINGTON — Sexual activity of teen-age girls increased in the 1980s, especially among whites and those in higher-income families, but the pregnancy rate remained stable because of greater contraceptive use, a study said today.
The Alan Guttmacher Institute, a nonprofit research group, found that the proportion of sexually active girls aged 15-17 years old rose from 32% in 1982 to 38% in 1988. For those aged 15-19, sexual activity also rose 6%--from 47% to 53%.
