From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Coupons will be distributed to Muscovites beginning Dec. 1 to ensure that staples such as meat, butter and flour are not stripped from the capital’s shelves by non-resident shoppers, the newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets reported. The coupons, to be sold for about $56 for a month’s supply, will enable residents to purchase 3.3 pounds of meat, nearly half a pound of butter and 1.1 pounds of flour, it said. The article indicated that the coupons might buy other items, but it did not list them. Coupons are already issued for sugar and cigarettes.
