COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Long Beach Rallies to Defeat UC Irvine in Water Polo

Cal State Long Beach scored five consecutive goals in the second half and defeated UC Irvine, 9-7, Thursday in a Big West Conference water polo game at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.
Mike Burke and Brian Costanza each scored three goals for Long Beach (12-14, 4-4 in conference), ranked ninth in the nation.
Steve Gill and Greg Hakim each scored twice for No. 7 Irvine (12-14, 2-6).
In the Rolex-ITCA Southern California men’s tennis regionals:
Anteaters advance--Four UC Irvine singles players and two doubles teams advanced in early rounds at UC Irvine.
For the Anteaters in first-round singles play, Brett Hansen-Dent, a freshman from Newport Harbor High School, defeated Chris Entterman of New Mexico State, 6-1, 6-3; Mike Roberts beat Robbie Wendall of UCLA, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3); Carsten Hoffmann, a senior from University High, beat Jim McNaney of New Mexico State, 6-0, 6-3, and Jeff Miyamoto beat J.J. Shobar of San Diego, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.
In doubles, the Irvine teams of Hansen-Dent/Hoffmann and Brett Stern/John Parker each advanced in second-round play.
In the Western Christian Athletic Conference preseason basketball tournament:
Pacific Christian 116, Latin American Bible College 40--Bob Gaskil scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds, and Dave Bril scored 13 and had 11 rebounds to lead Pacific Christian (2-0) at American Indian Bible College in Phoenix.
