VENTURA : Water Usage Cut by More Than 23%
- Share via
Ventura water customers have cut usage by more than 23% since the city began requiring mandatory conservation six months ago.
In October, water users used 23.4% less water than they did last year, increasing the city’s cumulative reduction to 23.8% since the ordinance went into effect in May.
Under a water conservation ordinance adopted in March, single-family houses are allowed 294 gallons per day and multifamily residences are entitled up to 196 gallons per day.
Institutional users such as the city have to cut back by 20% and businesses and industries by 15%.
The city’s goal is to cut water use by 30% to make up for the impact of a four-year drought that has depleted water reserves.
