IRVINE — Actor Jon Voigt is expected to participate today with about 500 others in HomeAid’s Run/Roll/Walk-a-thon to raise money for homeless shelters.
The event, open to the public, asks participants to obtain pledges from sponsors before running, walking or bicycling through a 1-mile course along Sky Park Circle in Irvine.
Last year’s participants raised more than $120,000 for HomeAid Orange County, a nonprofit organization founded by the Building Industry Assn.’s Orange County region. HomeAid has built five shelters in Orange County for the temporarily homeless, and four shelters are being renovated.
Registration for the bicycling event starts at 7 a.m. The cycling event will last from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. The run-walk portion begins at 9 a.m. Participants can register at the event, which begins on Sky Park Circle South off Main Street between Redhill Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard.
Top fund-raisers will receive prizes, such as vacations in Hong Kong, Hawaii, Mexico, Las Vegas or Mammoth Mountain ski resort. KEZY-FM radio will broadcast live from the event.
