Golden West 13, Grossmont 9--Edvard Van Luijin scored four goals to lead Golden West (28-3) in a semifinal. Golden West, the defending state champions, plays Cuesta tonight at 7:30 for the Southern California Regional title.
Both teams have cliched berths in next weekend’s state tournament at Long Beach Belmont Plaza pool.
Golden West defeated Cerritos, 17-7, earlier Friday.
Grossmont 12, Cypress 9--Brian Johnson had four goals for Cypress, which finished 19-12.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:
Orange Coast 3, Cypress 1--Reiko Matsumoto had 17 kills to lead Orange Coast (11-4, 8-2) to a 15-3, 15-9, 7-15, 15-7 victory over host Cypress.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Orange Coast 85, Southwestern 84 (OT)--Agustin Heredia scored 19 points and Shane Takeshita added 16 as OCC won its opener at Southwestern.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Golden West 90, Moorpark 53--Bits Sirchia scored 22 points, including four three-pointers, for host Golden West in the opener. Jennifer Harney had 19, including four three-pointers, and Adrienne Hughes added 18 and Tracy Wolfe 17 for Golden West, the defending state champions.
Moorpark led, 32-28, with about five minutes left in the first half, but Golden West rallied for a 40-35 halftime lead.
Saddleback 77, Grossmont 63--Nilda Valdez scored 20 points and Danielle Silva 18 for host Saddleback (1-0).
Fullerton 74, Mt. San Antonio 52--Nicky Durity scored 14 points to lead host Fullerton.
