Channel Islands Duo Make College Choice

Sal Tauau and Candis Carper, key components in the Channel Islands High girls’ basketball team’s drive to a share of the Marmonte League championship last season, have orally committed to Cal State Long Beach and Arizona State, respectively.
As a junior last season Tauau, a 6-foot center, averaged 12.5 rebounds, 11.2 assists and 2.8 assists. Carper, a 5-11 forward, averaged 14.2 points, 3.4 steals, 9.4 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots.
Tauau, who would like to go into law enforcement, said she chose Long Beach over Loyola Marymount and Cal because of proximity and the school’s criminal-justice program. She planned to sign a letter of intent today during the NCAA early signing period.
Long Beach was 25-9 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division I playoffs last year.
Carper, who was recruited by 25 Division I schools, chose Arizona State on the basis of its pre-law undergraduate program.
Channel Islands finished 23-7 last season and advanced to the Southern Section 5-AA Division semifinals.
